Commentary and Criticism about the National Education Association
We have absolutely no affiliation with the National Education Association and do not represent its views in any way, shape or form.
NEA, here is why many of your members applaud today’s Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME6/27/2018 “The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of association. I don't want to be associated with a union that claims to represent my interests and me when it really doesn't.”
Mark Janus, “Why I don’t want to pay union dues.” Not surprisingly, in the wake of today’s Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME, the NEA felt compelled to issue a defiant statement. Denise Specht, president of Education Minnesota was quoted in an NEA Today article saying the following: “Regardless of today’s Supreme Court decision, we must remain united and make it clear that no court decision can stop our union. Neither this ruling nor the right-wing groups that will weaponize it, will silence the voices of Minnesota’s professional educators.” “Right-wing groups …” For years, The NEA has ignored “right-wing” members of its union in favor of the liberal/progressive ones. Instead of keeping its focus on member salary, benefits and retirement issues, it has increasingly wasted time and resources supporting radical social “justice” issues. In this same article, NEA President Lily Eskelsen Garcia makes the following claim: “Fair-share fees help cover the cost of union representation and bargaining services that support high quality public schools and benefit employees by ensuring that their union can strongly advocate for them.” Really, Ms. Garcia? Below you can find links to all of the blog posts I have written showing how the NEA fails to “strongly advocate for” its members but instead strongly advocates for social “justice” instead. A quick glance at that extensive list of topics will provide the NEA with a clue why many of its members will be opting out of paying dues very soon. I rest my case ... Gun Control

Let the local districts and interested individuals handle the social "justice" issues. Unions are there for negotiation, salary, benefits and pensions.

You put too much faith in the districts. Who is to step in when they fail? Oh well to the student? Are you stepping in as a concerned individual? Probably not. Whether it happens to you, your school, or district, doesn't mean it doesn't happen therefore should not be dictated. Leave a Reply. |
